There are two schools of thought for new product developers: Patent and Patent-free. Patents make sense if you have
the financial backing to litigate and intend to go to court or are a hard negotiator.
There are a number of non-patent options as well. You can approach potential licensee's under
non-disclosure clauses with a functioning prototype in hand.
Sometimes the best plan is to run straight
at a market as fast as you can and establish yourself. Maybe developing a brand,
copyright, trademark, or trade secret would suit you better! It's
certainly less expensive up front!
